The organisation wanted to enhance the Board’s performance through clarifying the roles of Executive and Non Executive members.

Amicas worked with the Board to identify the expectations that each group had of the other, and of its own members. Using the metaphor of a kingdom, its rulers and the people, the Executives and Non Executives identified the roles they should be playing, the training they needed to undertake these roles, and the kind of communication they needed between themselves and the rest of the company.

The Business Plan was simplified and key performance indicators compiled which enabled both the Board and staff to feel informed about what needed to be done and why. And Board meetings became more useful and honest.

As a result, the Board members’ capabilities, and their time together inside and outside Board meetings, have been better utilised. The Board is more cohesive and coherent in its decision-making, and staff are better informed about the organisation’s performance, and understand the basis for key Board decisions.
