A senior Civil Service officer, applying for promotion, was invited to an interview in which she would be one of many candidates being assessed. Our facilitator elicited her metaphor for the new role and how she would operate within it. The officer was then able to illustrate her thinking through metaphor whilst in the interview, creating a memorable impression on the interviewer, clarifying her desire for the post and her ideas for the role. The officer got the promotion and was able to influence a restructure of the department in line with her metaphor model.
