Value-based planning and prioritising

A senior manager held important values around her own professionalism, part of which she defined as personally delivering on everything she had committed to do. She frequently volunteered to take on projects that others could handle, and then was subsequently required to undertake important work that her unique skills made it impossible for her to delegate. As a result her workload increased and the quality of her output decreased.

Following coaching with Amicas, the manager reframed her view of what, to her, constituted the values of professionalism. As a result, she was then able to delegate work to others or coach them to develop their skills whilst undertaking the task. Meanwhile, she was able to devote more time to the projects she couldn’t delegate and the quality of her work improved.
