Our Thinking
Two fundamental human characteristics that people bring to the workplace limit the achievement of their potential – and that of the organisation. These characteristics suppress individuals’ natural creativity, energy and drive. And they are characteristics often held by leaders as well as their staff.

The first is inflexibility of thinking - not really understanding or believing that in every situation we have a choice about how we think, act and react. Instead, following the patterns of thinking we have developed throughout our lives. Patterns that may, or may not, be useful to us in every situation.

The second is the belief that others will think, act and react in the same way that we do – despite a lifetime of evidence to the contrary! As a result, when we experience somebody doing something that is very different from the way we would do it, our reactions are often judgmental and critical.

Consequently, capable individuals can become ineffective in certain roles or organisations. Merging successful teams or organisations can result in less than the sum of the parts. Organisations filled with talented and committed people can struggle for market share, or sometimes survival. And of course, employees have huge difficulties with major change.

At Amicas our work focuses on helping people to understand how they think and how they differ from others. This leads to more choices in how they act, enhancing learning ability, the capacity to excel, and the flexibility to survive and thrive through change.
